If that is your style, then the light skirmish retinue are the most intimidating, as the AI only looks at troops numbers, not overall power (somewhat of an oversight in game design imo). Can you achieve fame and fortune for your noble family, or will your names be forgotten to history? Likewise, if you have housecarls, use those if you can lead them with the appropriate culture flank commander.
